Union Hospital Foundation Announces Scholarship Winners

TERRE HAUTE, IND—Union Hospital Foundation awarded nearly $40,000 in tuition assistance to 23 Valley students and Union Hospital employees at the 2012 Union Hospital Foundation Scholarship Reception.

The scholarships, made possible by the generous gifts of donors, allows the Foundation to sustain its mission by providing compassionate care to restore health and sustain life.

Vigo County School Corporation Superintendent and Union Hospital Foundation Scholarship Chairman, Danny Tanoos, offered his thanks to the Foundation’s donors and emphasized the need for healthcare professionals.

“The hospital and community need qualified healthcare providers, and I am proud to honor these exceptional students of the Wabash Valley,” said Tanoos.

The scholarships are offered to students who seek careers in health care such as nursing, physical therapy, pre-pharmacy and other academic majors.  

Hanna Curley, a Junior nursing student attending Indiana State University and three-year recipient of the Margaret Ann Carroll Scholarship, offered by the Service League of Union Hospital, is just one of 14 ISU students to receive assistance. “Being selected as one of the three recipients for the Margaret Ann Carroll Scholarship is a great honor and has helped tremendously for college,” said Curley.

Curley and Brandi Crane, who is also a Junior at ISU, are two of ten students who have received scholarships as the children of employees of Union Hospital. Six employees received scholarships.

“I am honored and grateful for this scholarship opportunity,” said Crane. “It has meant a lot to me and has really helped in my educational goals.”

As the event sponsor representative, Frontier Communications General Regional Manager, Marc Evans honored the students by offering words of wisdom and expressed his support for students in the healthcare field.

“We want to be involved in the community and hospital because we live and work here,” said Evans. “We are proud to support the students in their educational endeavors.”
